Dive Insight:
The mocktail sector has soared as consumers look to curtail their alcohol consumption without losing the flavor and social aspect that comes with their favorite drinks. This has opened the door for a variety of beverage companies to enter the space, not just booze makers.
Molson Coors announced a partnership in 2024 with Naked Life, which sells nonalcoholic canned cocktails in Australia. This came a year after it rolled out Roxie, its first nonalcoholic ready-to-drink cocktail line. Smaller alcohol brands have gotten in on zero-proof drinks, including Waterloo, Mingle Mocktails, Free AF and Ghia’s Le Spritz.
Nestlé is unlikely to enter alcohol, at least anytime soon. But mocktails allow the company to tap into the premium equity of its carbonated mineral water brand, Perrier, while tangentially playing in a space that’s become a growth channel because of its popularity with consumers.
“Maison Perrier Chic brings a new level of sophistication to sparkling beverages while reimagining the cocktail flavor experience,” Molly Lyons, a senior marketing manager at Nestlé, said in a statement. “Chic is all about celebrating flavor, craftsmanship, and the art of indulgence — without the alcohol.”
Maison Perrier Chic Citrus Fizz will be exclusively available at Whole Foods, while the other flavors will soon launch at retailers nationwide, including Amazon, later this month.
Nestlé last year launched Maison Perrier, or “house of Perrier” in French, as a way to grow beyond Perrier and allow for innovation in the premium beverage space. In addition to Chic for mocktails, Nestlé has Maison Perrier Forever, a liquid that focuses on natural fruit flavors and zero sugar.
